Why I am interested in Women's Studies

I am interested in Women's Studies for a variety of reasons. First, I feel as if some, if not many or most, of my experiences have been shaped by my gender. I am interested in studying how I can best utilize my position as a women in society for the well-being of my of myself and others. i consider myself aligned with those female sociologists that prefer and promote activism. I am a double major in Government and Philosophy with an emphasis in ethics, and I believe in justice and equality for all. I am also of the opinion that activism is one of the best ways to achieve both just and equality. One reason I find Women's Studies so interesting is because I find it directly related with economics. The discussions of male/female wage ratio, housework in the GDP, and the sex-typing of jobs fascinate me. It is specifically important to highlight the work of women sociologists because they have the ability to show the other side (the women's side) of life, issues, theory, history, etc.. Even from a scientific perspective, it is always better to have the full picture.
